I wish dragons existed.
From a young age, dragons have enthralled my interest and captured my imagination. Perhaps it was product of my overactive childhood imagination, but I remember wishing to have one of these majestic, benevolent, and intelligent animals as a companion or pet.
The reality of the situation, however, is that the benevolent portrayal of dragons is a relatively recent development in history, and that for thousands of years dragons were perceived as beings of cruelty, justice, and supernatural power, with the ability to snuff out human life whenever they pleased.
The Great Golden Dragon leans into this notion and portrays a dragon who is intelligent but cruel, powerful and vengeful, whose sole desire is to pillage the land and rest upon a heap of stolen wealth whilst toying with their human pets. And the unfortunate thing is that if dragons did exist, they would probably fit this dangerous description better than to the benevolent creatures of my imagination.
So in the end, I am glad dragons don’t exist.
